Product Discovery in the Age of AI How Product Owners Can Think, Experiment, and Build Faster in an AI-Enabled world. Introduction – The Perspective Shift

3D Letter N

Let’s face up to reality. We are missing the point of Product Ownership in organisations. You’re given the title, yet you end up being a backlog administrator with little decision-making power. You spend most of your time composing product backlog items, chasing stakeholders and jumping from meeting to meeting with little progress. Sound familiar?
This guide isn’t supposed to provide answers for every scenario you might encounter. It will provide the principles and patterns to help you critically think through your challenges. My intention for this guide is not to overwhelm you with tools or processes. The intent is very simple. Help you move from being a Product Owner in name to thinking like a real entrepreneur in an AI-enabled world.

Product Discovery in the Age of AI How Product Owners Can Think, Experiment, and Build Faster in an AI-Enabled world. Preface.

In 1998, the Internet was beginning its journey. This new communication technology was about to revolutionise everything we do. At the time, it was all speculation. Even ridiculed in the media. Who would be sending emails to each other when we can pick up the phone? Irrespective of the scepticism, there was a healthy optimism. Those experimenting with technology and exploring opportunities would ultimately win.

At the time, I was a computer science student, a keen fan of mobile technology. So much so, I was always looking for the next gadget. I was observing so much innate potential in this tech. A common sight would be me on my daily commute, my Ericsson MC12 palm-top computer glued to my fingers. It was connected to the Internet via my Ericsson GA628 phone, a device that was notably out of place amid the sea of books, newspapers, and phones on which passengers were engrossed. The very thought of being connected to the online world while in transit sparked curiosity among my fellow commuters. This tiny gadget was my conduit to the world.

Reflections on the First Regional Scrum Gathering Dubai 2025

I’ve been passionate about nurturing the Agile community across the Greater Middle East for as long as I can remember. For me, it really began back in 2010, when my enthusiasm for community was ignited by the incredible team I had around me at the BBC. While agile ways of working were gaining momentum in organisations, there was very little happening in the way of meetups or conferences. I remember taking my team to the excellent Skills Matter sessions around 2010/11. Back then, the community was certainly more technology-focused, and it was there that my love for community events truly began. Over the years, I’ve continued to build and grow communities, from internal agile-focused networks at the BBC and Accenture to Agile Derby in 2011, and now our latest group at Agility Evolution UAE, where our focus is on expanding awareness of agile ways of working across the broader Middle East. From supporting the first green community shoots in Pakistan in 2018 to mentoring local practitioners in countless workshops and coaching engagements, I’ve long held a passion for creating a space where this community can come together in a meaningful way. This year, that vision became a reality with the first-ever Regional Scrum Gathering in Dubai.

Agile, Productive, and Transformative: Lessons from the Coaches Retreat in Pakistan

At the Agile Coaches Retreat in Pakistan, attendees from government, services, and product development came together, all hungry to solve real-world problems. While much of the conversation revolved around “transformation and change,” the practical work centred on product development.
